Advisory Group Members are selected based on the following criteria:
- Each member has a long history of living and/or working in affected communities in the Gulf Coast states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
- Each member has a history of work towards achieving justice, furthering human rights, and supporting community development which is sensitive to the environment.
- Each member has a solid and positive reputation for integrity and ethics.
- Each is a respected community leader with a base of constituents.
- Each can point to concrete, material achievements.
- Each has a demonstrated commitment to political unity and collaboration, even if that means compromise at times.
- Each member can point to a demonstrated commitment to defending and advancing the right of communities to:
- Be self-determined.
- Live in a healthy and safe environment.
- Preserve and sustain coastal ecosystems and culture.
